Every spring there is a koi auction at the Shinkokai Headquarters.  Only Japanese breeders are permitted to bid on these koi.  We were fortunate enough to be able to stop in and see what was being offered.  This is when breeders from all over Japan buy potential brood stock.  The top selling koi that day was a 12" Dainichi Showa tosai.  It went for $24,000.
