Books on Koi and Garden Ponds

Koi2Kichi published in 2005 is a great edition to any library for serious koi enthusiasts.  It is a set of two books with a DVD.  Volume 1 is about the history of koi, water quality, koi keeping, proper koi pond construction, koi shows and information about high quality koi.  To quote Peter Waddington, "There are cheap koi and their are good koi, but I have yet to find a good cheap koi!"  In Volume 2 Peter takes us on a journey through the mountains of Niigata to visit some of the top koi breeders in Japan.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my copies.  The DVD that comes with this set is a complement to Volume 2.  If you enjoyed "Koi Kichi" then Koi2Kichi is a must have!

We are no longer able to get the first "Koi Kichi" book.

NEW!  The third edition of the "Nishikigoi, Koi Identification and Information CD is being produced and will be available for shipment starting December 15, 2006.  Order today and lock in your chance to win a two-year-old Japanese import koi.

Check Out

Koi 2 Kichi represents more than ten years work by Peter Waddington and the results offers Koi enthusiasts a unique blend of top quality information, punctuated with wit and a penetrating style of writing. What really sets the book apart from all others, is the knowledge that all the material included comes from personal experience.

In Japan, breeding koi—a colorful and beautiful member of the carp family—has occupied a position between hobby and art form for more than two centuries. This stunningly illustrated book, compiled by a team of koi experts, shows and tells aquarium enthusiasts virtually everything they need to know about this fascinating activity. Koi are hardy fish, relatively large in size, and the most practical way to keep them is in an outdoor pond. Combining text with illustrations, an important section of the book explains the requirements of a garden pond for koi, showing the filtration system and pointing out how it functions.
